Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear where the endolymphatic system is distended. It is also called endolymphatic hydrops. The triad of hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo constitute Meniere’s syndrome. If the cause is unknown, it is defined as Meniere’s disease.
It often occurs with the sensation of fullness or pressure in the ear. A peaked or tent-like tracing on the audiogram is obtained.
In the early stages of the disease, most patients are well between attacks. As the disease progresses, persistent hearing loss, tinnitus, and postural imbalance persist.
Males are affected more than female. It is more common in the age group 35-60 years. About 50,000 to 1,00, 000 people of the world develop Meniere’s disease in a year.
